Prescription Eyeglasses

I am so excited to tell ya'll about a great website my husband found. It's called Zenni Optical, and is truly a fantastic way to purchase prescription eyeglasses. They have prescription eyeglasses starting at $8 a pair and they are really good. Now, let me be the first to tell you, we were very skeptical at first. I mean, who has ever bought prescription glasses for $8/pair (only $4.95 s&h). But, to be honest, we've been on a tight budget lately and my husband needed a new pair desperately. So, we thought, you know what, it's worth the risk, if they aren't any good, we're only out $13, but would save about $200. He ordered them and they came in about 10 days. He has worn them now for about 2 months and they are great. No problems so far (even with a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old pulling at them during the nightly wrestling/tickling matches, lol).
Obviously the down side is you can't try them on to "see how they look", but if you're really worried about it, you could always go try on several pairs in the store to see what looks good and what doesn't and then order them online. Just so you know, I'm not getting any kind of payment for writing this review, I was just really impressed with their company and LOVED the price. I hope this helps with those back to school costs.

Thanks for posting this. I'll definitely be looking into it.

how do they measure you though? i just got new glasses and they mark on the glasses where the center of your eye is before they put the real lens in, do you know what I'm saying?

There is a somewhat lengthy form to complete for your order. One of the questions is, "Measure the distance between your pupils." It was kind of a multiple choice question in that there were several choices for measurements, so there must be a range that "most" people fit into.
It did take my husband about 4 days to adjust to the glasses, but after that, he loved/loves them.

I don't know if all doctors do, but when I had my eye exam, they did the measurements then so that I could go anywhere and order my glasses.

If you want to measure the pupil distance, it is pretty easy. Grab a small ruler and a small flashlight. Sit across from each other in a chair. Turn on the flashlight under your chin fasing at the persons eyes. Put the ruler up to their nose. Measure the little light the shines from the center of each eye. Measure in Centimeters! From the one light to the second light----that is your PD (pupil distance). I worked in the eyeglass business for many years, that is how we learned to measure before fancey machines did it for you!
Hope this helps with acurate measuring.

I have used Zenni twice now - it was a fabulous experience! In fact, my computer crashed in the finalization process and I wondered if the order had even been placed. I was surprised to have an email from them the next morning asking if I still wanted to place the order!!!
my first order (old prescription) in two weeks. My second order (new prescription) came in less than a week, and it was the one that had the computer troubles.
I will never buy my glasses anywhere else (I have been wearing corrective lenses for over 30 years). I love Zenni!!

Thanks for posting this; I'd found the site awhile ago, but Hubby and I were a little nervous about ordering from them.

Hubby and I just ordered new glasses a month ago from 39dollarglasses.com where the glasses start at (obviously) $39. Not as good as Zenni, but still better than $200! However, Zenni looks like they have more choices. Thanks for the heads-up, maybe I'll get some sunglasses now!

We have used zenni also and for 20 a pair my husband was very impressed. My dad has ordered six pairs to mix and match.... and they hold up as good as any other pair...

This is a great thing! Do have a picture of the glasses so that I can see how thick the lenses are? I wish I would have not spent $300 on a new pair 2 weeks ago!

I don't have a pic, but I'd say the lenses are a "normal" thickness. Not really slender, but not "thick" either.

Wow, thanks for the great find! It seems a little lenghty to order, but well worth the effort. Can I just call up my Dr and get my rx? I always felt like I had to buy glasses from their store...

Yes, you should be able to get a copy of your prescription from your optometrist. You might have to go by there, not all of them will give it to you over the phone, but they will write it out and give it to you.

Both my kids ended up with contacts from their new eye appointment last night. I didn't want to spend alot on glasses just for a back up to the contacts. So this post was perfect timing for me. THANK YOU! I just ordered each kid a pair, and it was just $25.90 for both pairs. You literally just saved me a couple of hundred dollars on glasses. I am going to make my husband look for a pair next, I had lasik, so no more glasses for me
