Year Round School

I've got to admit, I love year round schooling. It's something I thought I would never like and thought was completely ridiculous, but I love it. I've taught in several different settings and must say, year round schools are the best. The breaks through out the year are wonderful and come just in time. I don't know what the statistics are, but I bet teacher burn out is least among these settings. I'm not a huge fan of the "students retain more" as a reason for the necessity of this schedule, but I also know students enjoy this schedule as well. To be honest, 10-12 weeks off in the summer really is too long, teachers as well as students get bored.
Some of you may be fighting against year round schools in your district or contemplating which school to choose and basing your decision on the type of schedule it has. Give it a shot before fighting against it, you never know, it might be the perfect schedule for your family and you don't even know it yet.
